life + style to you: every Friday

How can we even begin to express our thanks to our mothers for all they have given and done for us since birth? We fear we may never be able to repay them for the millions of sandwiches and sack lunches prepared during school years, the shoulders to cry on, the boy advice, the shopping trips and beauty tips. No matter what the situation, they were always there with unwavering support and a promise to always love us.

We may never find the words to express our gratitude and appreciation, but we will do our best to try and show them how we care—starting with this very issue of Seattle Picks, our very first Mother’s Day Gift Guide, chock full of fun gift ideas for all kind of moms. Enjoy!

p.s. Dearest readers, a special treat for you, just for Mother’s Day—forward this issue of Seattle Picks to 5 friends and CC picks@seattlepicks.com. You could win a copy of the new book “The Greatest Love, Being an Extraordinary Mom” by Lori Slocum.

The Queen Mother

We like to think of our Mom as royalty—the Queen of our Hearts if you will (cheesy but true, folks). She considers herself the Queen Bee, so this works out well. This Mother’s Day, to find gifts worthy of our queen, we will head to Romanza where we can get her goodies like a candle from the new Archipelago Botanicals Royals Collection (complete with removable jeweled brooch) or a fluffy satin and chenille bathrobe from Giraffe at Home. Long live the Queen!

Don’t Forget Father’s Day, Too!

Our dad is a typical beer-drinking, car-fixing, sports-watching manly man, but even the manliest man likes to be pampered in luxury now and again. This year we are going to combine our love of pampering with his love of sports, with The Home Run package from Kimpton hotels (Hotel Vintage Park, Hotel Monaco, and Alexis Hotel). They’re offering 10% off the best available room rate, a cab voucher to Safeco Field, and Cracker Jacks—we provide the Mariners tix. It’s a home run for all involved.

Showing Mom Some Love

This Mother’s Day, we are taking indulging Mom to a whole new level, by showing our undying love and devotion with an at-home facial, performed by our very own hands. So we stocked up on all the needed elements from Emerita—a line of skincare products specifically designed for women over 40, in adorably designed tubs. We chose the Microdermabrasion Face Care Collection (with free Moisturizing Cleanser—natch!) and Mom’s face has never been smoother or more glowing. Yay us!

No One Deserves Better

We have come to realize that mothers are the hardest working people on the planet. We can’t think of anything more difficult that staying at home day after day with busy (sometimes screaming) children. For all their hard work, they deserve, at the very least, a day of pampering at Duque salon + spa. Nails, make-up application, facials, and our personal favorite, the Stop and Smell the Roses body treatment—complete with warm rose-oil drizzle and sugar-rose-oat scrub. Here’s to you, moms!

An Old Classic with a New Twist

As kids, we gave mom the same gift each year—flowers picked from the yard and a homemade card. Simple and always appreciated. This year, we are going to do it old-school and get mom the stand-by flowers, but with a new twist. In addition to the great vases, jewelry and other special gifts at Liberty 123, this stylish shop is offering three different flower arrangements, held in a charming Flee Bag Mini Tote. Two gifts in one, she’ll love it! (Quantities are limited, so place your order by May 3.)
