February 6th, 2009
Ok, so we know the single gals out there get sick of hearing us “taken ladies” talk about the men in our lives. And we completely understand that this time of year can be more trying for those of us without a guy, what with the reminders of love and couple-dom everywhere. We get it! And we were definitely guilty of complaining about love and the corporate-ness of V-Day when we were manless.
So we know how it is on both sides of the fence. But love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day the holiday of love, so if you don’t have a signif O, celebrate your love for your mom, your best friend, your sister or whomever!
And if you need some gift ideas—whether it’s where to go to dinner with your boyfriend, what to get for your aunt or what to do with your bestie, read on! It’s the Seattle Picks Valentine’s Day Gift Guide and its packed full of love-ly ideas! xoxo

Oh, La La!
We love wine and we love chocolate. Put the two together and we are over-the-moon with joy and ecstasy! Happily, we have found the perfect place for a Valentine’s Day date for anyone who loves wine, chocolate, food, and entertainment—Parlour Night at Oh! Chocolate. By pairing fine wines with chocolate and small plates, and adding a bit of old-fashioned amusement in the form of vintage games for $69/person, they have the perfect setting for a sweet Valentine’s celebration.

The Look of Love
Flowers will eventually wilt, and chocolates will ultimately melt (if you don’t scarf them all down first, like we do), but glassybaby… well, a glassybaby is forever. Whether it’s a dozen “Red Rose” for your Valentine’s Day dinner party, or the Sweetheart Mix gift-set for your sweetie, you can never go wrong with giving glassybaby as a gift. Not to mention, they have such perfect Valentine’s Day names (and corresponding colors) like True Love, First Kiss and Smooch. Ahh, love!

For the Love of Cupcakes
What's sweeter than sharing a cupcake with your sweetie? The Deathcake at Cupcake Royale is back just for Valentine's Day and we're drooling for this chocolate cupcake injected with a Stumptown espresso truffle, and topped with Theo Chocolate ganache. But, since one cupcake is never enough, we might need the Sweetheart 4-Pack with the new Salted Caramel Cupcake – with a housemade caramel buttercream and sprinkled with dark chocolate curls and Fleur de Sel. On second thought, these might be too good to share.

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend!
It doesn’t look like there will be anyone (including our boyfriend) slipping a diamond engagement ring on our finger this Valentine’s Day. That’s fine—really it is (did that sound convincing?).
At least for this year, we can be content with the “What a Rock!” paperweight—perfect for the desk of a stylish editrix. Maybe seeing it there every day will inspire a certain someone to get the real thing on our finger—stat. But it’s fine, really.

Cocktail of the Week! |

Tiramisu Meltaway
There are so many choices for where to go and what to do for Valentine’s Day that we can hardly keep track of them all. One place we know we will be visiting for sure is Sazerac—we hear their talented bartenders have put together a group of dessert cocktails called Box of Chocolates for the week of Valentine’s Day (starting the 9th), including drinks like a Buttercream Flip, Black Cherry Chocolate Truffle and Tiramisu Meltaway. The perfect treat for two on a lover’s holiday.
¾ oz. vodka
¾ oz. Starbucks Coffee liqueur
¾ oz. Godiva chocolate liqueur
1 shot espresso
Layer special whip (Starbucks cream liqueur, a little Cointreau, heavy whipping cream, cinnamon and cardamom) on top and garnish with cinnamon and cardamom.
