March 5th, 2010
We just got back from a trip to the Big Apple… and we’re exhausted. It’s left us feeling like we need a vacation from our vacation. Don’t get us wrong, we loved every minute of life in NYC, but it’s a hectic pace to keep up. There is so much to look at, be aware of, crowds to navigate through— it’s like sensory overload. But it’s also energizing and awe-inspiring. We saw Broadway shows, shopped in Soho (side note— despite their corporate status, Seattle totally needs a TopShop and Uniqlo), strolled in Central Park, saw the sun set on the City That Never Sleeps from Top of the Rock, ogled all the pretty things in shop windows along Madison Avenue and even learned how to ride the subway all by our lonesome.
As great as New York was, we were so happy to get off the plane and see green, trees, and feel like we had the space to breathe and stretch our arms out again. New York is an amazing place and one of the few places where you could spend a lifetime exploring and never see it all, and we have a ridiculous amount of fun there, but Seattle… well, its home. |

Look Like a Million Bucks
We’re the type of girls with champagne taste and caviar dreams, but instead of downing bottles of Veuve Clicquot, we opt for the $10 varietals. We don’t want to take “living outside of our means” to an entirely new level, so we’re always trying to figure out how to live like a million bucks without spending more than five.
If we knew how to find some Veuve for mere cents, we’d have to share that knowledge with our pals. So we have decided to let you in on a little secret. There’s a little piece of heaven called Ragamoffyn’s that lives across the lake in Kirkland. Inside are racks and racks of Dior, Chanel, Chloe, Marni, and Oscar, shelves filled with Hermes scarves, Miu Miu shoes and Prada bags. All… on… consigment! The deals are insane— DVF dresses for $55, Oscar de la Renta gowns for $100, and the list goes on.
No, we don’t really need any designer duds, but at these prices we have decided to skimp on groceries this month and consider those Miu Miu pumps to be a necessity.

Work It, Little Mama
Teeny weeny bikinis are nosing their way onto store shelves, and oh my, do we love them. We also love wine and artisan gelato. However, we certainly don’t love the sound of our alarm waking us up an hour and a half earlier to go to the gym. Even if it is in the spirit of continuing to be faithful to our both our Pinots and the tight tush we swore we’d have for this year.
At David Barton Gym, we can leave all our motivation sleeping at home. Once we walk in, the colorful lighting, the energizing music, and the lively trainers are more than enough to make us forget we’re at a gym. And we can just bounce into classes that are led by a real, full-time trainer, so we’re guaranteed to get pushed during our workout. The final bonus is the gift shop! On top of a few quintessential workout items, this spot features eclectic items for the home and cute accessories, including scarves and flats.
With class names like Pain & Pleasure and Ass Blast, we know those 45 little minutes are going to make our bikinis proud.

Down the Rabbit Hole
Okay, how excited are we for Tim Burton’s epic “Alice in Wonderland” film? Amazing cinematography, costumes, characters, and hey, we don’t mind Johnny Depp either—even if he’s a little pasty with a curly red fro—it’s still Johnny Depp. We love a little make-believe.
With the opening of Unicorn in Capitol Hill, we’ve found something that feels like a little bit of Wonderland with a touch of Cirque du Soleil. With an explosion of color, imagination and a sense of adventure and fantasy, Unicorn is the newest hangout for ladies and gentlemen who love rainbows, glitter, majestic unicorns, taxidermy, pinball machines, and of course, food and beer. And in true circus spirit, most of what you’ll eat here will be served on a stick, like corndogs—but there’s also carnival cart items like elephant ears (drool) and fried pickles.
All this fun really made us wanna take a ride on the Ferris wheel and overdose on cotton candy, but with all of Unicorn’s mish mash of curious randomness sprinkled on every wall, it felt like we were Alice falling down the rabbit hole… and maybe we will find Johnny Depp at the bottom.

Sit, Stay, Praise
We just got our first puppy, and we’re already turning into those people—the kind who stand in the treat aisle, checking labels to make sure we’re not poisoning our new best friend with additives. It’s been surprisingly challenging, since nearly all the major brands contain multiple things on the vet’s no-no list.
Enter Beggar Dog biscuits. They’re locally made, all natural, and even met with wild approval from the ever-mindful dog trainer—and the ever-hungry furball.

Revenge is Sweet
We recently received a text-message dumping from a guy we weren’t that into anyway, and we’re feeling slighted. So we’ll share our annoyance with a little gloriously anonymous revenge!
Douche Bouquet is the perfect way to say, “It’s not me, it’s you. Because you’re a douche.” And because the Douche Bouquet is basically a bucket containing black silk roses, a 5-foot enema tube, and a straightforward card that proclaims his douchebaggery in no uncertain terms, there’s no chance he’ll miss the message.
